This whimsey is in concordance with the thought processes of Frankenstein in Mary Shelleys, Frankenstein. In this novel, Dr. Frankenstein had a changeless thirst for more knowledge and a better accord of science which is what led him to create the monster. He was not content with remaining ignorant, whereas some of his contemporaries were. Similar to how Frankensteins despair grew with his attainment of knowledge (the creation of the monster), the Brahmins despair grew as well due to his understanding of the circumstance that there was an copiousness of concepts to which he was ignorant.
